Choosing a finish to suit the colours and light of your table and how you like to care for it.
Silver plate gives a cool, bright look and goes easily with white porcelain and glass. Gold plate reflects a warm light and looks lovely with cream, earth and dark wood tones.
Care habits
Silver plate tarnishes over time and needs an occasional polish. Gold plate does not tarnish, but as a thin layer it should only be wiped with a soft, dry cloth.
Before you decide
Think about the light you will use the piece in most: silver stands out in daylight, gold in evening light.
